Date or Die

I feel a bit like Carrie Bradshaw in this moment: sitting down to my computer, typing away about the dating predicaments and dynamics most affecting singles, watching New York pass outside my window (ok so I lied about that one, but a girl can dream). Yes, I’ve seen this scene before, on a rerun of Sex & the City. But this is a little different. Let me backup a bit, because I’m really no Carrie Bradshaw.

What is Date or Die?

Welcome to Date or Die, the project I started as a means to better understand dating culture in our modern world. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t fall down the rabbit hole of Reddit worst dating stories every now and again?

While I love a good first-date-gone-wrong story, that’s not exactly what this is. No, I don’t want this to be the place to air dirty laundry about a terrible date or a clingy ex. Instead, I want this internet space to dig into the psychology and trends behind dating. Each post will be different, delivering content in a variety of different ways, from audio interviews to written interviews & more. I’ll have experts weigh in and guests share their experience.

So where do you find your info?

So you might be wondering about the specifics, like how did I determine topics and where did these guests come from, so let me pull back the curtain on the process a little. I began asking questions to friends and classmates—what about dating is fascinating to them? No, I didn’t conduct any formal crowdsourcing. Instead, I wanted to have a bit of a dialogue with friends about what is fascinating to them. We would talk through ideas and they would grow increasingly invested in the project— it was actually really fun to see! I made a list of all kinds of topics I could explore and I began drafting. There were certain topics I knew I wanted to address in the form of an interview and there were others that I wanted to take to the people (aka my Instagram following) to help provide me with some insight. Each project was a little different. Some I did research for and looked to the experts, while others I came with an open mind and lots of questions. It really was a mixed bag.

In writing these articles, I wanted them to act as almost a debrief of sorts. Maybe I have always held an opinion about something in one direction, but after researching I had a change of heart… I wanted that included!

Who’s this for?

This space is for the curious. We are students & professionals. We’re married & we’re single. We are dedicated to keeping an open mind and learning more about the people around us on this wild ride that is modern dating. Whether you find yourself actively dating or not doesn’t matter. I hope you follow along and start asking questions. You’re in the right place.
